Project Info
Project Description
Location: Budongo Forest Reserve, Masindi
This flagship initiative targets the protection and restoration of the iconic Budongo Forest—one of Uganda’s last strongholds of East African Mahogany and chimpanzee populations.
Through multi-stakeholder engagement, the campaign addresses illegal logging, charcoal burning, and forest degradation. The project empowers local communities through environmental education, tree planting drives, community nurseries, and enforcement collaboration. It combines reforestation with sustainable livelihoods to protect endangered tree species while creating long-term community benefits.
Key Objectives:
-
Plant over 1 million native trees by 2025
-
Reduce forest exploitation by 40%
-
Promote eco-tourism, community stewardship, and youth involvement
